Experimental Glitch Aesthetic - Pornography Social Issue

Student work - Experimental aesthetic digital media campaign on a social issue. I used the visual metaphor of a ‘glitch’ to represent disruption and the perceived effects of pornography on individuals and relationships.

Anti-Pornography Glitch Aesthetic

Digital Media Campaign

Challenge

For a final digital media project, I was asked to select a social issue and develop a visual campaign around it. I chose to address pornography and its potential effects on individuals and relationships.

Because the subject can be difficult to communicate without becoming overly literal or predictable, I wanted the campaign to create an immediate visual impact while encouraging the audience to think about the message.

Approach

I developed the campaign around a glitch-inspired visual aesthetic. The distorted imagery represented disruption and the idea of something being altered or corrupted beneath the surface.

The visual direction allowed me to approach a serious subject in a contemporary digital language that felt appropriate for the intended audience.

Process

I explored the concept through research, visual experimentation, typography, image manipulation, color, and composition. I developed multiple visual directions before refining the strongest concepts into a cohesive campaign.

Final

The final campaign uses a consistent glitch aesthetic across digital media pieces to create a recognizable visual identity and reinforce the campaign's message.

The project demonstrates my ability to develop a visual concept and carry it consistently across multiple pieces rather than designing each graphic independently.

What I Learned

This project taught me how important concept development is when designing around a sensitive subject. Strong visual communication requires more than creating something attention-grabbing—it requires making sure the visual language supports the message.

It also strengthened my ability to use experimental visual techniques while maintaining hierarchy and intentionality.
